"a wise man I came across in Barcelona spoke the words that form the core of this poem. Re-reading it I got that feeling I sometimes get these days; living in a supposed post-racial world of Obama Optimism. We are different and we are the same it's so true. Anyway, I think this guy has some of what it's all about sown up. Lest we forget, of course, realities can be different too!", khome.

 Not Different The Same

A black man
can have the heart of a white man
And
a white man
can have the heart of a black man
It makes no difference
they are the same

They share a longing for human contact
made with the power to pass through barriers
Walls and floors,
And glass of any tint or shade

A white woman
can have the brain of a black woman
A black woman
Can have the brain of a white woman
We can’t tell the difference
they are the same

To touch
To feel
Not colour But texture of skin
Not brown soil, red soil, yellow soil of origin

But all seeking, A connection
A common identification
With their fellow, women, children, men
Not different, not difference
they are the same
